Evoca releases new voice comment plugins

SEO October 31st, 2006

I just got an e-mail from Evoca.com, a voice publishing site, announcing new plugins for WordPress, TypePad and eBlogger. It’s really neat. You can either download the plugin for your blog or place some javascript on your page to use a nifty recorder that people can use to leave comments, suggestions, etc. on your blog or site. See the bottom of any page on this blog to check it out. I opted for the javascript because the recorder is just too wide for my sidebar and it pushed everything out of place.

Once you retrieve your recorded comments, Evoca gives you HTML code that you can use to put the recording in your blog if you think it’s worthy of blogspace. I’m still playing with that function. So far, unless I paste the code in a separate comment, my header, footer and sidebar disappear. I’ll keep working on that.

One thing I’d like to see them implement - the ability to resize the recorder. I also think that it’s a bit awkward to have to hit the “Send” button after the recording is made. The way the box is organized, it looks like the “Send” is for sending a note by e-mail. The first time I tried recording, I didn’t know I had to “Send” it. Minor things. You do have to open a free account with Evoca, but hey, it’s free.

So, got comments on SEO or my balding head? Jump down to the bottom of this page and give it a shot.

Addiction Intervention Services web site progress

SEO October 28th, 2006

Well, I deleted my original post on this by accident, so I’m including a copy of it below (Thank you, Google cache).

The addiction Intervention Services site progress is good so far. We are ranking well for a lot of the targeted keywords and phrases (addiction intervention, addiction interventionist, etc. I’m tweaking pages and gaining backlinks as I can. Traffic is growing and calls are coming in. If I can get Jim Shelton, the interventionist, to provide some more content, we’ll really be rolling.

As mentioned in the original post, this site is being done on a shoetring. We’re seeing how we do against the bigger organizations with big budgets. We’ll be adding a video and perhaps some podcasts at some point.

Anyway, so far so good.

I’m working on a site for my partner who is an addiction interventionist. The shell design of the site has been up quite a while, but he’s just beginning to add content. Interestingly, the site is already showing up in Yahoo for certain phrases, lending weight to the notion that sites that have been crawlable for a while don’t get “sandboxed” like brand new domains do. This domain has been around a while, but with no content.

As we add content, we’ll be watching how it does. The site is AddictionInterventionServices.com .

Most of the competition for the targeted keywords (addiction intervention, addiction intervention services, etc.) are much larger organizations with bigger budgets for SEO & SEM, challenging us to see what we can do on a relative shoestring. Here goes… ;-)

Yahoo Says No to ODP, too

SEO October 27th, 2006

Cool. Yahoo has decided to support the NO ODP tag as well. Now if we can just get them to support a NO YAHOO DIRECTORY tag. The Yahoo Directory listings are just as out of date as the ODP listings are.

I’m sure the SEO community will appreciate Yahoo even more if they’ll just take this one extra step forward, which just might be in the works! ;-)

Battlestar Galactica or Diaper Derby?

Uncategorized October 12th, 2006

OK, I was out of town when the season opener aired, so I recorded it and just had a chance to watch it. My first impression was, wow, this thing is going where the original never had the opportunity. It’s darker and more violent. It’s also hitting a bit close to home with the idiot president, suicide bombs and the enemy who thinks murder is God’s message.

That said, I’m having a bit of a flashback to “V”, another scifi TV show that had great promise, but failed to keep things on track. The first thing they did wrong was introduce an alien/human hybrid baby. Sound familiar? Being a fan of the original series who thought that Starbuck was the best character on the show, I still cringe a bit over the new Starbuck being a female (sorry, I’m just true to the original). Don’t get me wrong, I like the current character, but now she’s got a hybrid baby? Sheesh!

And then there’s Boomer’s hybrid baby hidden away somewhere.

Enough of the babies already! It didn’t work for “V” and I really don’t want to see Battlestar Galactica go down that road.

Again, this has nothing to do with SEO, but, hey, it’s my blog, so forgive the off-topic rants.
